Black Belt Test

PERFORMANCE REVIEW

March 29/April 5th - 11am (doors open at 10:30)

The Performance Preview hosted at the Atkinson Dojo is for all candidates testing for all non-master ranks.

Just like the Preview, the during the Performance Review candidates will be standing in front of four to five master ranking judges with over a hundred years of combined experience! This portion of the Black Belt Testing will be a CLOSED DOOR event. We have found that test candidates perform their best without the added pressure that an audience of family members, spouses, and friends create.

During the Review, students will perform their required testing curriculum (look Below) with the exception of Sparring and Written test, which will be administered at their home dojo.

The Black Belt Testing Preview will be recorded and made available to each candidate upon request.

We are asking all candidates to please confirm your spelling and what you are testing for (Link Below).

    • Sandan Candidates - April 5th

    • Yondan Candidates - April 5th

    • Godan Candidates - April 5th

  • If you are not feeling well, please contact us immediately and we’ll schedule a make-up review.

  • To help expedite the testing process, we are asking all candidates to supply us with their “headshot," if you haven't done so already. A photo with a smartphone is fine and we ask that all candidates are photographed with a clean white uniform (with school patch). Also, please be sure to have nothing but a white wall in the background. Feel free to EMAIL THE PHOTO HERE.

  • Please be sure all candidates are properly dressed at ALL stages of the testing. A clean, white uniform with an Association patch is a must.

    • Anything worn under the Gi top must be clean and white.

    • All female Candidates must wear appropriate garment(s) under the Gi top (all ages).

  • Please use the rear entrance at Buzz Durkin’s Uechi Karate School (Atkinson, NH). There will be instructors waiting there to greet candidates and show them to their proper area for testing. We ask that parents/spouses of the candidates please do NOT enter the dojo when dropping the candidates off. Experience has taught us that this slows the entry process.

  • Please report any injuries to the testing panel BEFORE the testing begins.

  • The Black Belt Testing Performance Review will begin on time, so please be prompt! Candidates are welcome to enter the dojo at 10:30am.

  • The Black Belt Testing Performance Review usually takes less than two hours. To avoid unnecessary clutter and confusion in the dojo, we ask all parents and spouses to wait in the back parking lot for pickup of the candidates.

FOLLOWING THE REVIEW

In the days following the review, all the candidates will receive detailed feedback from the judges. Some may be asked to continue their cross-training for a POST-PERFORMANCE REVIEW (on June 7th).

Depending on the performance at the review; some will be ready to continue on as a PROVISIONAL graduate. This is the portion of the Black Belt Testing where the candidate proves their ability to CONTINUE acting and performing as someone of their upcoming rank.

If you have any issues with these links, please do not hesitate to CALL/TEXT or EMAIL me with any questions.

Sincerely,

Marcus Traynor | Director – Uechiryu Butokukai
